Company reports over $600,000 in premium revenue last quarter.
Many new top level domain name companies are following a business practice popularized by .TV: selling domain names that come with an annual premium fee.
Radix, which runs domain names such as .online and .store, just released data on its premium sales and renewals in Q3.
Here are some interesting data points for the third quarter:
- 406 premium domains were registered or renewed, representing $608,000 in revenue.
- 220 of these were new registration representing $366,000, the 186 renewals were for $242,000.
- Online was the biggest by far for premiums, with 38% of the revenue. .Store is next at 20%. .Store had the highest average premium price.
Radix also released top sales of the quarter. Here are the top 10 that have annual renewal premiums:
1. Reg.tech $6,500
2. Fire.host $6,500
3. Project.space $6,500
4. Audible.store $6,500
5. AWS.store $6,500
6. Showroom.store $6,500
7. Bonds.store $6,500
8. Bot.store $6,500
9. Sue.online $5,200
10. Way.press $3,900
You’ll note that three of these are Amazon.com. Interestingly, Sue.online has a whois record of “repossessed by GoDaddy”, suggesting that the buyer didn’t actually pay for the domain. (Maybe they didn’t realize they were buying a premium domain.)
The company also sold 1.store for a one-time premium of $30,000, bam.tech for $15,000 and hello.store for $10,000.
